Meet Felicia
Why are you learning a language?
I've always thought that Spanish is beautiful. Once I'm fluent, I hope to become a translator.
Are there any techniques you use to keep yourself on track that you'd like to share with other language learners?
Set a daily alarm for when you want to work on your new language. Even if you happen to be busy at the time, don't let the day pass before you squeeze in another lesson (or at the very least, a review). Also, getting other people involved is very helpful. I've started to get my mum to quiz me occasionally. Now, when it's been too long, SHE'S reminding ME that it's time for another quiz!
What do you enjoy most about learning a language on Busuu?
I love that I get to interact with native speakers. They can catch the mistakes that voice recognition can't. They can also help you learn colloquial phrases to sound more natural. Over time, you tend to develop a rapport with these people, no matter how far away they are, and you get to help them in return. It's such a genius idea! It's the main reason I started using Busuu.
How would you describe Busuu in one sentence?
Busuu is an intuitive app that allows me to not only be able to learn the language in a quick and natural manner, but also to understand the grammar behind the foreign language, which helps me to better understand future lessons more easily.
What has studying on Busuu helped you to do in the real world?
I'm now able to understand Spanish when I hear it, because when Busuu introduces new words, they’re spoken by native speakers rather than a robotic voice. I was in the grocery store the other day, and a woman turned to me and started speaking Spanish. I'm not sure why, since I don't look Spanish at all, and she had no reason to believe I was learning the language. Despite that, I was actually able to understand most of what she was saying!
Have you had any good conversations on Busuu or met someone from Busuu in real life?
I have not met anyone from Busuu in real life but I have had a conversation or two. I love being encouraged by the users, and I love giving credit where it's due when others do great on their assignments.
